My computer works again! [Dec. 14th, 2005|09:44 pm]
[mood | happy]

Actually, the computer itself was fine the whole time. It turns out that the fault lay with my surge protector. Somehow, when Mike plugged his (my new) video card in, the surge protector broke in such a way that it delivered just enough power to run the fans but not enough to actually start the computer. Yeah. Wtf.

Anyway, we bought a new surge protector and all is well! And the aforementioned video card works fine too! So not only do I not have to replace anything except the surge protector (for $10), I get a free graphics upgrade too. Score.

My computer broke :( [Dec. 6th, 2005|01:15 pm]
I won't be seen online much until I figure what's wrong and what to do about it. (I can get to the web at work, but only when I'm on break. Lame!) I may need a new motherboard.

Today's fun fact: it is apparently possible for a video card to be damaged, say by a power surge through the motherboard, in such a way that you can destroy an otherwise perfectly good motherboard by plugging in the tainted video card. This may be what happened to mine. :(

Other than the disastrous results of our attempt to upgrade my computer with his old video card, though, our living in sin seems to be going well.

This is probably even more worth mentioning than the last one: I live in Seattle now.

What is RSS? [Nov. 30th, 2004|09:39 am]
I hear it kicks ass, but I can't find anywhere on the web some basic information on what it is and why it's useful. Everyone seems to assume I already know what it is and just want to learn a few details or pick a program to read it with.

So, explain RSS to me briefly. Pretend we're sitting next to each other on a bus and your stop is coming up, so you have to be brief and just give me the basic idea.

I command it!

Thanksgiving [Nov. 25th, 2004|02:55 pm]

The guests have arrived. Soon I'll have to leave the safety of my room and go talk to them.

The nightmare begins...

mrowr [Oct. 11th, 2004|01:29 pm]
I am feeling very cat-like today. I don't want to do anything productive. I want to stretch and wriggle and curl up on the sofa to nap. Then I would like to butt someone gently with my head and demand to be petted, after which I will purr and wriggle some more.

Seattle [Sep. 27th, 2004|11:02 pm]
I really need to move out of my parents' house. Possibly to Seattle. But I don't know if I should do that ASAP or wait till this semester is over or what. Damn it all.

Crap! Oh, wait. [Sep. 20th, 2004|10:49 pm]
[music |some slipknot crap that came up on this stream]

When I turned on my computer this evening, it couldn't find any hard drive, instead of only finding the master drive like usual. But then I wiggled the IDE cables a bit and it was happy.

This computer makes me edgy sometimes.

Spending money sucks [Jul. 16th, 2004|01:43 pm]
I need a new motherboard for my PC, as it's decided to stop posting. Looking around the 'net, it turns out that the abit KT7A I had enjoys a reputation as a shoddy board, with many people experiencing weird issues of the sort I've had for years. That's kind of encouraging, since it suggests that if I get a new motherboard of a different type, the computer will perform better than it did before dying, not just equally.

However, it's hard to find old motherboards that still take the SDRAM I have. One that I would've liked just sold on ebay for over $50, plus shipping. It seems hardly worth getting an old, obsolete board at that price...

A friend has told me about a newer board that can take SDR or DDR ram, as well as handling both my processor and more advanced ones. I could get that one and both be set for now and well-equipped for future upgrading. That's kind of attractive. On the other hand, I don't really want to start replacing my machine one piece at a time - I'd rather buy a new computer entirely when I need something better. A new computer from someone who sells whole computers and gives warranties. That'd be nice to have.

I wish there was a central database of the inventories of computer stores in and around San Francisco, so I could see if any local places have the kind of board I'm looking for instead of trolling ebay.

Stuff to Do [Jan. 15th, 2004|04:52 am]
[mood | lazy]
[music |Dr. Wario game BGM]

I need to...

* Go to court and show them that, yes, I do have car insurance and just forgot to have it with me that day,

* Call / go to campus and try to clear up this mess with the class I didn't take and the $18 I owe them,

* Also get an academic counselling appt. with a counsellor other than the one I saw last time, hopefully a competent one,

* Look into finding a local therapist dealing in trans issues so I can satisfy my parents' demands without totally wasting my time, and

* Get a job. Actually, this sort of goes with the campus ones, since that's the kind of job I'm most likely to find.

In other news - I actually updated my LJ! Go me!

Pills [Nov. 18th, 2002|03:59 am]
[mood | depressed]
[music |Neverhood - Battle of Robot Bil (?)]

They aren't working. This is the fourth kind I've tried, and they don't keep me from curling up in the corner and crying either.

I still don't feel right about taking drugs intended to change the way I think. *Especially* because they're subtle. It's just damn creepy. I try not to think about it. I still have to take them to keep my parents happy and my support money coming, though. In a way it's a good thing that they don't work, since I can humor my parents and not creep myself out. Feh.

At least these ones aren't giving me headaches or insomnia, yet.

[music |Tashanni - Don't Bother Me]

I went out to apply for jobs today, and the local game store is hiring for Christmas, and seemed happy to get my resume. Woo! That would certainly make living here a happier thing. ^_^
